- Tweenie Bikini
- Infinity Leotard
- Bandeau Dress
- Illusion Dress
Choose whether you want to cut the outline of your skirt as a 'circle' skirt or whether you want to follow the guide lines on the wings panel for a shaped hem.
Circle Skirt Hem
1. Print the donut skirt pattern (free pattern).
Add 2cm height along the straight edge.
REGULAR PANEL: Cut around the size 14 hemline (no matter what size you are making).
SMALL PANEL: Cut around the size 5 hemline (no matter what size you are making).
2. Fold wings panel in half. I suggest using a few pins around the outline of the wings to help line up front and back evenly.
It is a good idea to fold the fabric in half with right sides facing and mark out the hemline on the back with an air/water soluble marker to make sure you are not cutting any of the wings off (there can be slight variances in panel sizes during the printing process).
Overlay pattern piece and cut hem carefully.
3. Use waist cut pattern piece to cut waist opening.
Mark side seams and centre front/back on waist.
4. Attach skirt to your BOO! Skater Dress bodice or BOO! Donut Skirt/Mermaid Skirt waistband.
Shaped Hem
1. Carefully cut around outline of wings. A subtle outline has been added to your fabric panel which can be used as a cut guide.
2. Fold wings in half aligning hem.
Use waist cut pattern piece to cut waist opening.
Mark side seams and centre front/back on waist.
3. Attach skirt to your BOO! Skater Dress bodice or BOO! Donut Skirt/Mermaid Skirt waistband.
Lynette Reilly
Hi Kristie,
I made my first butterfly dress in September 2018 for a grand daughters birthday. I have the fabric to make the second one up for my other grand daughters birthday next week but I can’t recall if it’s necessary to top stitch the skirt . Whether I did or not I don’t recall. Just wondering as this particular grand daughter is VERY active and I’d hate the skirt to separate from the bodice.
What do you think?
Thank you for any advice.
Lynette. 🌷🦋🌷
